Overnight Tehran Enghelab

We head into downtown Tehran to visit the National Museum of Iran. Some of its exhibits date back 35,000 years. We’ll also see the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Golestan Palace, wander through the Grand Bazaar and marvel at some of the world’s most stunning jewellery at the Treasury of National Jewels.

Overnight Tehran Enghelab 4 star breakfast & lunch

Today we drive to the foothills of the Alborz mountain range to visit Alamut Village and Alamut Castle. This mountain fortress was the home of the legendary Assassins, followers of Hassan Sabah for whom they were named.

Overnight Gazor Khan Village Local house breakfast, lunch & dinner

We take the road to beautiful Masouleh. Founded in the 10th century AD and built into the side of a mountain at 1,050 meters above sea level, the town features unique architecture and a surrounding landscape of great beauty.

Overnight Masouleh Local house breakfast & lunch

A free morning to explore Masouleh on foot, followed by a scenic drive to Qualeh Rudkhan (“Rudkhan Castle”). Built on two peaks of a mountain, the castle covers an area of 2.6 hectares (6.4 acres). Its 42 watchtowers remain intact and no attacker ever managed to breach it. We continue to Shazdeh Ebrahim village for the night.

Overnight Shazdeh Ebrahm Local house breakfast, lunch & dinner

Today we visit the imposing Dome of Soltanieh, one of the largest brick domes in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It took 10 years to build and has been described as “anticipating the Taj Mahal.”

Overnight Shirin Village Local House breakfast, lunch & dinner

We leave in the morning to visit the Katale Khor cave. Katale Khor means “mount of the sun”. The cave was formed during the Jurassic Period but was only discovered around 90 years ago. Three kilometres of the cave system are open to the public. In the afternoon, we drive to Hamedan.

Overnight Hamedan Bou Ali 4 star breakfast & lunch

Ali Sadr Cave is the world’s largest water cave, containing artworks dating back 12,000 years. On return to Hamedan, we’ll visit the tombs of the 10th century philosopher, Avenna and the 11th century poet, Baba Taher. We move on to the 10th century Dome of Alavian, famed for its carved stucco work and finish the day with a visit to the tomb of the biblical Queen Esther and her cousin, Mordechai, Iran’s most important Jewish pilgrimage site.

Overnight Hamedan Bou Ali 4 star breakfast & lunch

Known for its orchards and flower—especially rose—distilleries, Niasar is a green haven in the desert. We visit the Niasar Waterfall, Soleiman Spring and the magnificent, hand-cut local caves in the afternoon. (The rose gardens can be visited from early April to mid-June.)

Overnight Niasar Local house breakfast, lunch & dinner

We take a short drive to Kashan for a full-day tour visiting Iran’s oldest garden; the stunning Agha Bozorg Mosque; and the 4,000 year-old archaeological site of Tepe Sialk. We start our day with a short drive to the Pasargard Complex. This World Heritage-listed archeological site contains early Achaemenid Palaces and the tomb of Cyrus the Great, founder of the Achaemenid Empire. We continue on to another World Heritage Site: Persepolis, the ancient capital of the Achaemenid Empire, with palaces and temples dating back to 515 BC. We’ll also visit the awe-inspiring Naqsh-e Rostam Inscriptions before heading to Shiraz.
